JCL Minutes 10/2/18

  • Picture of the Month: historians
    • Maddie has sent in the Picture of the Month.
  • Club of the Month: Victoria
    • Victoria filled out the application
  • Food for the lunch on Thursday for the people who turned in their JCL membership
    • Chinese chicken salad is a required
  • Morgan: report on state membership
    • Forty-one people have sent in their state membership for JCL.
    • Magistra and Mr. Morris both have to join ACL
  • Lorica update: Sophie S
    • Write-up on Caesar Maximus (Ava), Progressive Supper (Anna), first waffle sale (Naomi) (include where proceeds go)
    • Also, the Middle School ice-cream social would be a good event to add to the next Lorica.
    • The Monday before Halloween is the ideal publish date for the next Lorica.
  • Google team drive: Natalie
    • When Magis retires and the seniors graduate, we need to make a team google drive to put all the documents in, which can be called “jcl@menloschool.org.”
    • Someone will need to create this account and be the owner.
  • T-shirt update: historians 
    • The historians are ordering the t-shirts today.
  • Start scrapbook: historians 
    • The historians are going to get together this weekend to print out pictures and plan out the Scrapbook.
  • MS Ice Cream Social
    • Victoria and Sophie R (+Anna) need to find places in the Middle School to set up the Twelve Labors.
  • Renaissance Fair at Casa de Fruita
  • Halloween party: Victoria
    • Victoria has tried to contact everyone at the shelter, but no one has responded.
  • Ludi info
    • The Ludi Information forms go out on October 17th.
    • Ahna needs to find those who have not turned in their forms.
  • Greece trip 
    • Magis can offer money for those who cannot afford it.
    • For every six people, one person can go for free.
  • Convention cheers/props: Jack
    • Jack shares his cheers for Ludi so that we all get points for spirit.

JCL Minutes 9/25/18

  • Discussed updates on NJCL contest submissions
  • Do state membership: Morgan
    • 35 people have paid for the membership out of the 47 students, however, we still need to register everyone
  • Discussed Progressive Supper
    • 3 hours next year
    • Thank-you notes
    • Plants/orchids as gifts
  •   Lorica Nostra
    • We want to try to create a new Lorica issue every months, however, that is a lot of work for Sophie S.
    • New Theme = Halloween 
      • Because it is in the month of October, the Lorica can be Halloween themed.
    • Write-ups: Progressive Supper, Waffle Sale, MS Ice-cream Social, Caesar Maximus
    • Jokes in Latin
      • Magis and Naomi wrote down several jokes that they think could be in the Lorica.
    • Dear Abby
      • Elise’s suggestion was to be able to write in problems and comments in this website.
    • Pictures of Club Fair
      • We need pictures of the Club Fair to put on the website and in the Scrapbook.
    • Send all pictures of all events to ahna.kim@menloschool.org
  •  Update on t-shirt: Historians
    • Sonia has scanned the photo, however, we are going to type the words instead of sketching them.
    • Get sizes from Morgan’s spreadsheet
      • Morgan needs the sizes as soon as possible so that he makes sure that everyone receives a shirt for Ludi.
  • Ludi Info In:
    • Jack is planning the teams that will participate in the sports events at Ludi.
    • Registration packets are needed because they include everything that is required for Ludi.
  • Business Office has not responded yet.
  • Shelter has also not responded. Magis will try again on Thursday.
    • We want to throw a Halloween party at the homeless shelter and we need to know when would be an appropriate time as soon as possible.

    • Natalie volunteered to make a card for Magistra Nguyen.

      • Anna can ask her mom to see if she can purchase a baby gift for Magistra Nguyen.

    • Ethan needs to revise it to see if there is anything that needs to be changed.
    • We need to add that an independent study related to Latin counts as taking a Latin class or being part of JCL.
  • News on Constitution and Bylaws: Ethan
    • Constitution OK
    • We need to add an amendment for voting specification.
    • Ethan would like a poster for signatures to be created and for everyone to swear in.
    • By-Laws need work: Start with officer duties
      • Ethan looked at the by-laws and would like to update the duties of the officers.
      • The criteria to host convention was haphazardly created and it needs to be redone.

    • Ethan says that 50% have voted on the Thai restaurant.

JCL Minutes 9/18/18

  • Great work on Lorica Nostra !!! Thanks to Sophie and everyone who worked on this.
  • Discussed Progressive Supper forms
  • Club Fair: Friday at lunch 
    • Victoria, Maddie, and Sonia can volunteer at the Club Fair.
    • What do we want to show?
    • What do we need to buy?
  • Discussed MJCL finances
    • We gave 40% of money to CJCL
      • Approximately 34% of money is going to Menlo School
    • The rest of our money is going to LNM textbooks/workbooks and the zoo trip for the shelter
  • Naomi motions the debate of how we want to distribute our funds.
    • Natalie seconds the motion.
    • We have come to the consensus that 50-75% of profit should be donated to Financial Aid.
  • Update on ice cream social with middle school
    • Magis said no to any September dates because we already have a ton of events going on this month.
    • Committee meeting to plan: Who and When?
    • Magis invited Sacred Heart MS to join us.
      • Teacher from Sacred Heart MS wants to join JCL and take her kids to State Convention.
      • We need to plan a date to show the Sacred Heart MS how to play Certamen and show them the ropes of JCL and convention.

    • We did a great job helping set up/clean up and virtually everyone brought what they were supposed to bring.

    • Ethan created a waiver form to allow Menlo JCL to take pictures and post on the website/Lorica and allow first and last names to be stated on these forms of social media.

JCL Minutes 9/11/18

  • Debrief of faculty ice cream social:
    ○ The ice cream social was a complete success! The faculty greatly appreciated
    the gesture and there was even extra for the helpers.
  • Update on convention donation:
    • Magis wants to present a giant check during assembly to show the convention’s success.
  • Update on ice cream social with middle school
    • Preferably, the Middle School ice cream social will take place in October

    • Everyone but one has their forms in
  • Discussed arrangements for Progressive Supper
  • Waffle sale
    • Officers are texting the people who signed up to bring materials for the waffle sale
  • We are taking an entire Menlo JCL photo because everyone is at the meeting today.
    • We need to take photos of all the different Latin classes for the Scrapbook.
  • We set a date for the Halloween Party for the homeless shelter

    • Everyone likes the back of the t-shirts, but the front still needs to be touched up

    • The September edition for Lorica is almost finished.

    • Historians have started brainstorming ideas for the Scrapbook.

  •  Ethan is trying to obtain waivers for names so that JCL members can have their first and last names on documents such as Lorica.

JCL Minutes 9/4/18

  • Discussed attendance for Caesar Maximus (the play)
  • Greece trip needs a faculty advisor
    ● Greece trip is not a “service” or “abroad” trip so Magis needs find where
    money comes from for trip
  • Magis will talk to Mr. Morris about study guides
  • Waffle sales:
    • We need to get permission from the office, gather people, and set a date

JCL Minutes 8/29/18

  • Natalie and Naomi, our new consuls, welcomed us to the first meeting.
  • The Membership Drive has begun. Latin teachers have paper copies, and it is posted on website.
  • Self-Introductions: All the offices gave their names and stated their offices on the board.
  • Lunches:  We all signed up for regular, vegetarian, or gluten free lunches.
  • We set goals and to-do lists
    • We will ask officers to report what they are doing for meetings from time to time.
  • We discussed potential social activities for the JCL community
  • Progressive supper: September 23
  • Organized a facilities ice cream party
  • Should we buy textbooks for Denali’s prison teaching? We voted unanimously to pay for 25 texts and 30 workbooks of Latin for the New Millennium I.
  • Aequora plan: Natalie is working with Magis and Magistra Kelly to teach Latin to students in the Peninsula Bridge program.
  • We are planning an Ice cream social with middle school and a waffle sale.
  • National online exams: This was tabled for next meeting.
  • Trip to Caesar Maximus in San Francisco.
    • Magis will fill out the forms, negotiate a price, and write the permission slip

JCL Minutes 3/6/18

-Today we worked on different projects to prep for convention
-The historians continued to work on the scrapbook
-Sophie and Victoria went to measure the loop to see how many food trucks we can fit. We are estimating 25 feet for each food truck. We measured that all 12 should be able to fit in the loop.
-We worked on counting the number of desks and tables in all of the testing rooms
-Rachel continued to work on registration
-We sorted pencils into groups of 25 and sharpened them
