Minutes 3/2/20

Ahna and Sonia are going to be convention presidents next year. We discussed Jacob’s room at states. Four people paid for a (now) five person room, so Magis now has an extra 100 dollars. We are not going to buy Disneyland tickets until we arrive. Sonia is making stickers for promotion. Magis proposed we put the stickers on lollipops. We need to write a thank you note to the Flick manager Thien Hoang. The Lorica is out! Thank you to Peridot. It will be distributed to all of the Latin classes. Sophie will post this news of the Menlo JCL Twitter and other social medial platforms. Ethan reminds us that Pre-Convention entries are due this Monday, March 9th. Ethan also proposed starting a project or going on an outing before the end of the year. Book your flights and send them to sophie! Luke is thinking of costumes for cheers; maybe gloves in addition to the clocks. Maybe purple or black gloves? We need to take down the Valentine’s Day decorations in Magis’ room and put up spring themed decorations. People are signing up for classes soon so we need to talk to middle schoolers/high schoolers who don’t like their language. We need to find the date that middle schoolers sign up for classes. Sonia will ask Mrs. Nguyen when we should come speak in her class about high school latin. We need to prepare for the Easter Party on March 24th. Cookies and easter egg hunt? Ethan will get catapult back for state convention. Luke needs to assemble the chariot/make sure its in working condition.

Minutes 2/25/20

We need to get cover sheets from Lindsey, Sonia and Jacob. Historians could possibly send out a survey like they did last year to get to know the officers. This could be used on the website with pictures of the officers. Peridot needs to email PDFs of all the Loricas to Ahna, Sophie, and Elizabeth so we can put it on social media and the website. We discussed the State Convention for next year. Ethan proposed co-hosting the convention with Harker, because they have the number of students but they do not have the facilities. However, it may be too much work for us to co-host (maybe more work than just hosting). We had a discussion about whether we want to host alone. First we will ask if Saint Ignatius can host. Magis will talk to Ms. Altieri. The middle school wants to cheer with the high school at states. There are 16 middle schoolers and 22 high schoolers. They would need to come practice the cheers with us. Ahna thinks it’s time to do the video announcement at assembly. Ahna will have video ready by next week.  Photo of the month is due on the 27th of February. Sonia will submit that. Everyone needs to book flights for states. We will remind Morris about pre-convention competitions that are due on March 9th. We decided to renew Flickr now. Sophie has been emailing schools to come to the state convention. Do we want stickers/bookmarks for the publicity process? Ahna will think about that.  Thank you to Victoria for the Nuntius!

Minutes 2/11/20

Several people turned in their forms and money for state convention. The forms are due by the end of the day tomorrow, February 12, 2020. We had our JCL party for the middle schoolers on Friday June 7th. They really enjoyed the waffles. Next year we need to send people to help guide them to A222. Peridot is going to finish Lorica. Everyone has finished their articles. Ethan will put “take class photos” on Jude Morris’s whiteboard. Because Aequora is this Thursday, we will make Valentines this period with their names.

Minutes 2/4/20

Sonia and Claire are going to the Middle School Party on Friday, February 7th. We need 4-5 people to go. Magis will ask Freshmen and Sophomores to go. Sonia will post more frequently on Instagram. Ethan gave Sophie suggestions for the website. We should add more photos of conventions (Nationals) and change the front picture. Nuntius deadline is this Friday (the 7th) at 9pm. On Monday, March 2nd at 5:00 pm there is a program called “Conversations with Homer” at the center of Greek studies. We will decide if people want to go. Minutes 1/28/20

Ahna will design an invitation for Middle School Party on February 7th. We will make waffles for the party; Magis will draft up a list of people to bring. We will introduce them to Certamen and/or make jewelry. We decided to just run Certamen. Sonia will give a spiel about convention. March 19th or March 24th for Shelter Party. Could be Easter or Spring party. We decided on March 24th for Easter Party with Shelter. Lindsey and Jacob have a new scrapbook area and are working on it during meetings. Elizabeth will work on downloads and forms page on website. Waffle sale March 4th.

Minutes 1/21/20

Middle School party on February 7th. We will do fun certamen such as Latin translations of songs, TV Shows, movies, and sports teams. Sonia will meet with Magis to plan. Sonia is still waiting to hear back on the shelter party. Today we are going to vote on the bylaws. Madeline Rae Levin moves to incorporate the new bylaws. A gavel is presented to Claire Lenden. The ayes have it. Claire Lenden bangs the gavel. Everyone should send Aequora to Sophie. Morgan Wyatt proposed a motion that ⅓ of profits will go to CAJCL scholarship fund. Motion passes. Everyone needs to book flights for State Convention. Sonia, Ethan, and Claire have finished their Lorica articles. Morgan will finish his article by the end of the day. Ethan and Victoria have an idea to host a certamen tournament for teams to prepare for Carcer. They have tentatively decided that Saturday, February 29th is the best date for this and will raise it at the board meeting on Saturday, January 25th. Supplies have been ordered for scrapbook and they will attach sleeves to pages. They do not yet have a cover idea. They will take a photo of every Latin class this week.

Minutes 1/14/20

We need to pick a theme for the shelter party. Sonia proposed Valentine’s Day and Spring Party around March 19th. People like Spring Party idea or Roman celebrations. We discussed middle school party ideas; we could make greeting cards or certamen (which would be indoors, rather than the usual outdoor scavenger hunt). Maybe advertise with hot chocolate or waffles. We could also do jewelry making or art projects. We want to do this sometime first week of February (maybe on Friday 2/7). Certamen competition in southern California is February 1st, but there are lots of conflicts. Ahna and Maddie will ask Mr. Morris if he is willing to chaperone. We helped Claire do final revisions to the bylaws. Ethan shared the Constitution with Claire. Sonia is running for state office. We have Aequora this Thursday (1/16). Morgan will teach vocab. We are going to fly down to John Wayne (Santa Ana) for state convention. This means we will not go to the Getty on Friday (April 17th). We will miss C, D, E, and F Blocks on that day.

Minutes 1/7/20

We have reserved 20 rooms at the hotel for State Convention on Friday, April 17 – Saturday, April 18. People who want to go to Disneyland will leave later on Sunday; those who don’t want to go will leave Sunday morning. Flights out of Santa Ana airport. Mr. Morris is leaving early. We need to find out the price of Disneyland with a discount. Forms due March 9th to run for State Convention. Sonia is interested in running for 2nd VP. Webmaster position will be open so someone can run for that. Lindsey and Jacob are working on the scrapbook; call out to everyone to send pictures. New Year themed Lorica, but we will have to get it done early because the time period is ending. Post AP can write for the Lorica. Ethan will write about Janus, Sophie on Saturnalia, Claire (maybe) on her trip to Rome, Morgan on the Bridge program, and Sonia on Christmas Party. The deadline is January 21st. Elizabeth needs to update the minutes on the website, they need to be categorized, as well as add events to the calendar. Morgan is separating the membership cards. We need to discuss how much money to donate from the money raised at Ludi. Mid-March, or Valentine’s Day party at the shelter. We also need to make a plan for the party with the Middle School.

Minutes 12/10/19

Sonia, Victoria, Claire, and Cami will take photos at the Christmas party tonight 12/10. We are having a Saturnalia party on Thursday 12/12. We will give 16 Saturnalia bags to the middle schoolers.
