JCL Minutes 11/13/18

  • Menlo Study Abroad is copying us by hosting their own Waffle Sale and using our waffle irons.
  • Waffle Sale:
    • $644
    • Next date?
      • We want to host another Waffle Sale before Christmas so that we can raise money for the Christmas Party at the homeless shelter.
      • We could possibly sell right after Saturnalia, but it is still a tentative date.
    • Waffles for Paradise?
      • We also want to help raise money for the fires in Northern California, possibly by doing a Bake Sale, another Waffle Sale, or just collecting money.
      • As a community, we feel as though making waffles or baked goods brings us together because we are putting in true effort rather than just donating our parents’ money.
      • At the end of the lunch period, Natalie, Ethan, Victoria, and Magis are going to meet about raising the money for the fires.
  • Saturnalia planning: Who is in charge?
    • We need a small subcommittee to help plan Saturnalia.
    • Sophie R and Naomi have both volunteered to plan.
  • Clean up from Halloween and bring up Xmas boxes
    • We cleaned up and put away all the Halloween decorations. Now it is time to put up the Christmas decorations!

JCL Minutes 10/31/18

  • Lorica Update: thank you Sophie!
    • This month’s Lorica came out beautifully!
    • All of the articles were turned and and compiled on time.
  • Redwood Family House Halloween party report
    • Although the party started at 6 pm instead of 5pm, the party was a success!
    • The kids thoroughly enjoyed the pumpkin carving, especially putting stickers on the pumpkins.
    • Also, the cookie decorating was very popular because the kids could put their own unique twist on a tasty treat
  • Send pictures from Halloween party now!!
    • Make sure to send pictures from the Halloween party to Ahna because she has a deadline coming up soon.
    • All of the old material from the past updates must be properly archived
  • Victoria needs to send the link to Mr. Healy that we won club of the month.
  • Sophie S needs to share this months Lorica with Mr. Olson so publicize Menlo JCL activities.
  • Date for the RFH Christmas party 
    • Victoria is still in the process of finding a date that would be compatible with all of our schedules, preferably on a Friday.  
    • December 7th is the most compatible date because it is before break and finals.

    • Program works beautifully in Python, currently being translated to a binary file

  • Saturnalia Brainstorm
    • In the Middle School, the students did a candle exchange, which was very fun for everyone
    • Participants need to bring cupcakes, ice cream, candles, and ornaments for the tree.

JCL Minutes 10/23/18

    • Morgan is preparing to mail Ludi forms soon.
  • Halloween party: Victoria
    • We have eight people attending the Halloween Party, which is enough to help out with all the activities.
    • The volunteers are wearing the new JCL shirts for the Halloween Party!

  • We won Club of the Month: Congrats to Victoria and everyone!
    • Natalie’s club won Club of the Month! This was our first time entering and, because of the waffle sales, community service, and activities that we offer, we stood out as a great club!

    • They have started the scrapbook and are now available to meet twice a week.

      • If we hand them out right before Ludi, it will ensure that no one has lost them.

    • Magis needs the Greece forms as soon as possible.

    • Because CCS for sports are starting, it would be a good idea to put up posters during the game.
    • Also, we could make a Menlo JCL Twitter page in order to promote more on social media.
  • We are having a Waffle Sale on November 7th to compensate for the money we spent on the costumes.
  • Possibly the students who went to Menlo Middle School can help plan a Saturnalia event 

JCL Minutes 10/16/18

  • For the scrapbook, they have ordered the paper to work on it, but they need to reprint the pictures because they were fuzzy. They are going to try a different store.
  • Ethan will find someone to fix the light on the scrapbook from last year
  • The middle school ice cream social was successful and the kids really enjoyed it. We shouldn’t do it on a Friday again, because not many high schoolers could come and help (only 4 people were there). We also need easier clues next time, since most of them were sixth graders. We also couldn’t tell who was in Latin and who just wanted ice cream because the middle school teacher wasn’t there quickly. We could do ice cream after, but the kids are really hungry after school.
  • We finally got an email back about the costumes for the Halloween party. The case manager is working on getting a list of costumes. We have candy already, and Victoria and Magis will meet to plan food.
  • The next waffle sale is November 7, Magis will get the sign up list out
  • Ludi forms are due tomorrow, October 17, so we need to make sure everyone turns them in!
  • We are introducing the bylaws at this meeting and voting on them in the next meeting. Most of the changes are small edits.
  • When we are finished editing the constitution, we will get a printout and sign it.
  • Morgan is working on NJCL registration, there is a  broken link on the website so he was unable to finish.

JCL Minutes 10/9/18

    • Victoria says that the director of the homeless shelter will send her information by 10/11.
      • We might have another waffle sale to raise money for this event.

      • We need to figure out what kind of food to bring
      • We will most likely end up buying the pumpkins and bringing them to the homeless shelter

      • Most likely, we will have a waffle sale and use that money to pay for the order of costumes online.
      • Essentially, the waffle sale will be after the party and will pay for the costumes that we used our JCL money on.

    • Greece trip forms need to be turned in as soon as possible.

    • Anyone can make changes or add to the Bylaws, but mostly everyone is done.

JCL Minutes 10/2/18

  • Picture of the Month: historians
    • Maddie has sent in the Picture of the Month.
  • Club of the Month: Victoria
    • Victoria filled out the application
  • Food for the lunch on Thursday for the people who turned in their JCL membership
    • Chinese chicken salad is a required
  • Morgan: report on state membership
    • Forty-one people have sent in their state membership for JCL.
    • Magistra and Mr. Morris both have to join ACL

    • Write-up on Caesar Maximus (Ava), Progressive Supper (Anna), first waffle sale (Naomi) (include where proceeds go)
    • Also, the Middle School ice-cream social would be a good event to add to the next Lorica.

    • When Magis retires and the seniors graduate, we need to make a team google drive to put all the documents in, which can be called “jcl@menloschool.org.”

    • The historians are ordering the t-shirts today.

    • The historians are going to get together this weekend to print out pictures and plan out the Scrapbook.

JCL Minutes 9/25/18

    • 35 people have paid for the membership out of the 47 students, however, we still need to register everyone

JCL Minutes 9/18/18

JCL Minutes 9/4/18

  • Discussed attendance for Caesar Maximus (the play)

JCL Minutes 8/29/18

  • Natalie and Naomi, our new consuls, welcomed us to the first meeting.
  • The Membership Drive has begun. Latin teachers have paper copies, and it is posted on website.
  • Self-Introductions: All the offices gave their names and stated their offices on the board.
  • Lunches:  We all signed up for regular, vegetarian, or gluten free lunches.
  • We set goals and to-do lists
    • We will ask officers to report what they are doing for meetings from time to time.
  • We discussed potential social activities for the JCL community
  • Progressive supper: September 23
  • Organized a facilities ice cream party
  • Should we buy textbooks for Denali’s prison teaching? We voted unanimously to pay for 25 texts and 30 workbooks of Latin for the New Millennium I.
  • Aequora plan: Natalie is working with Magis and Magistra Kelly to teach Latin to students in the Peninsula Bridge program.
  • We are planning an Ice cream social with middle school and a waffle sale.
